Roles & Responsibilities

Tom Pether - Head of School

I have been teaching in primary schools for nearly 20 years in which I have taught across the age ranges. Teaching is an endlessly fascinating and rewarding profession which continues to challenge and engage me. My original degree was in Art History, after which I completed a PGCE. I am a trained SENDCO and have been Head of School at Blackawton and now at East Allington schools. I enjoy teaching the range of subjects we offer in primary schools but History is my passion and I have for several years trained teachers in this subject as part of the SCITT teacher training program.

I believe teachers in primary schools have the opportunity, duty and privilege to open doors, ignite interests and enable children to, in the words of the great Roald Dahl; ‘Be the best you can be.’ – that’s what we strive for every day at East Allington.

Malcolm Wheatley - Vice Chair

Malcolm has been a governor since the early 1990s, serving as Vice Chair and Chair of the Finance Committee at East Allington Primary School before it federated with Blackawton and Stoke Fleming primary schools in 2010.  He is a freelance writer and editor, specialising in finance and business, and also holds a position of Visiting Fellow at Cranfield University School of Management.  Malcolm also serves on the Finance Committee of Education South West.
